Until now, the requests sent to topology server are queued to a workqueue by the generic server framework. These messages are processed by worker threads and trigger the registered callbacks. To reduce latency on uniprocessor systems, explicit rescheduling is performed using cond_resched() after MAX_RECV_MSG_COUNT(25) messages. This implementation on SMP systems leads to an subscriber refcnt error as described below: When a worker thread yields by calling cond_resched() in a SMP system, a new worker is created on another CPU to process the pending workitem. Sometimes the sleeping thread wakes up before the new thread finishes execution. This breaks the assumption on ordering and being single threaded. The fault is more frequent when MAX_RECV_MSG_COUNT is lowered. If the first thread was processing subscription create and the second thread processing close(), the close request will free the subscriber and the create request oops as follows: [31.224137] WARNING: CPU: 2 PID: 266 at include/linux/kref.h:46 tipc_subscrb_rcv_cb+0x317/0x380 [tipc] [31.228143] CPU: 2 PID: 266 Comm: kworker/u8:1 Not tainted 4.5.0+ torvalds#97 [31.228377] Workqueue: tipc_rcv tipc_recv_work [tipc] [...] [31.228377] Call Trace: [31.228377] [<ffffffff812fbb6b>] dump_stack+0x4d/0x72 [31.228377] [<ffffffff8105a311>] __warn+0xd1/0xf0 [31.228377] [<ffffffff8105a3fd>] warn_slowpath_null+0x1d/0x20 [31.228377] [<ffffffffa0098067>] tipc_subscrb_rcv_cb+0x317/0x380 [tipc] [31.228377] [<ffffffffa00a4984>] tipc_receive_from_sock+0xd4/0x130 [tipc] [31.228377] [<ffffffffa00a439b>] tipc_recv_work+0x2b/0x50 [tipc] [31.228377] [<ffffffff81071925>] process_one_work+0x145/0x3d0 [31.246554] ---[ end trace c3882c9baa05a4fd ]--- [31.248327] BUG: spinlock bad magic on CPU#2, kworker/u8:1/266 [31.249119] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000428 [31.249323] IP: [<ffffffff81099d0c>] spin_dump+0x5c/0xe0 [31.249323] PGD 0 [31.249323] Oops: 0000 [#1] SMP In this commit, we - rename tipc_conn_shutdown() to tipc_conn_release(). - move connection release callback execution from tipc_close_conn() to a new function tipc_sock_release(), which is executed before we free the connection. There is at least one Chelsio 10Gb card which uses VPD area to store some custom blocks (example below). However pci_vpd_size() returns the length of the first block only assuming that there can be only one VPD "End Tag" and VFIO blocks access beyond that offset (since 4e1a635) which leads to the situation when the guest "cxgb3" driver fails to probe the device. The host system does not have this problem as the drives accesses the config space directly without pci_read_vpd()/... This adds a quirk to override the VPD size to a bigger value. The maximum size is taken from EEPROMSIZE in drivers/net/ethernet/chelsio/cxgb3/common.h. We do not read the tag as the cxgb3 driver does as the driver supports writing to EEPROM/VPD and when it writes, it only checks for 8192 bytes boundary. The quirk is registerted for all devices supported by the cxgb3 driver. This adds a quirk to the PCI layer (not to the cxgb3 driver) as the cxgb3 driver itself accesses VPD directly and the problem only exists with the vfio-pci driver (when cxgb3 is not running on the host and may not be even loaded) which blocks accesses beyond the first block of VPD data. However vfio-pci itself does not have quirks mechanism so we add it to PCI. There is at least one Chelsio 10Gb card which uses VPD area to store some non-standard blocks (example below). However pci_vpd_size() returns the length of the first block only assuming that there can be only one VPD "End Tag". Since 4e1a635 ("vfio/pci: Use kernel VPD access functions"), VFIO blocks access beyond that offset, which prevents the guest "cxgb3" driver from probing the device. The host system does not have this problem as its driver accesses the config space directly without pci_read_vpd(). Add a quirk to override the VPD size to a bigger value. The quirk is registered for all devices supported by the cxgb3 driver. If fbdev emulation is disabled, the QXL shutdown path will try to clean a framebuffer that wasn't initialized, hitting the Oops below. The problem is that even when FBDEV_EMULATION is disabled we allocate the qfbdev strutucture, but we don't initialize it. The fix is to stop allocating the memory, since it won't be used. This allows the existing verification in the cleanup hook to do it's job preventing the oops. Now that we don't allocate the unused fbdev structure, we need to be careful when dereferencing it in the PM suspend hook. These slab pages will be treated as thp later leading to crash in split_huge_page_to_list(). The input subsystem registers LEDs with default triggers while holding the input_lock and input_register_handler() takes the input_lock this means that a triggers activate method cannot directly call input_register_handler() as the old ledtrig-input-events code is doing. The initial implementation of the input-events trigger mainly did not use the simple LED trigger mechanism because that mechanism had an issue with the initial state of a newly activated LED not matching the last led_trigger_event() call for the trigger. This issue has been fixed in commit 822c91e ("leds: trigger: Store brightness set by led_trigger_event()"). Rewrite the "input-events" trigger to use the simple LED trigger mechanism, registering a single input_handler at module_init() time and using led_trigger_event() to set the brightness for all LEDs controlled by this trigger. Compared to the old code this looses the ability for the user to configure a different brightness for the on state then LED_FULL, this is standard for simple LED triggers and since this trigger is only in for-leds-next ATM losing that functionality is not a regression. This also changes the configurability of the LED off timeout from a per LED setting to a global setting (runtime modifiable module-parameter). Switching to registering a single input_handler at module_init() time fixes the following locking issue reported by lockdep: [ 2840.220145] usb 1-1.3: new low-speed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcd [ 2840.307172] usb 1-1.3: New USB device found, idVendor=0603, idProduct=0002, bcdDevice= 2.21 [ 2840.307375] usb 1-1.3: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0 [ 2840.307423] usb 1-1.3: Product: USB Composite Device [ 2840.307456] usb 1-1.3: Manufacturer: SINO WEALTH [ 2840.333985] input: SINO WEALTH USB Composite Device as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.0/usb1/1-1/1-1.3/1-1.3:1.0/0003:0603:0002.0007/input/input19 [ 2840.386545] ====================================================== [ 2840.386549] WARNING: possible circular locking dependency detected [ 2840.386554] 6.10.0-rc1+ torvalds#97 Tainted: G C E [ 2840.386558] ------------------------------------------------------ [ 2840.386562] kworker/1:1/52 is trying to acquire lock: [ 2840.386566] ffff98fcf1629300 (&led_cdev->led_access){+.+.}-{3:3}, at: led_classdev_register_ext+0x1c6/0x380 [ 2840.386590] but task is already holding lock: [ 2840.386593] ffffffff88130cc8 (input_mutex){+.+.}-{3:3}, at: input_register_device.cold+0x47/0x150 [ 2840.386608] which lock already depends on the new lock.
