CPC Board Seat: Election Information and Call for Nominations #859
Comments
I'd like for us to consider thinking a bit more strategically about these seats. Getting up to date on how a board functions takes time. So does being able to effectively represent the community's and the CPC's perspective. I don't think it makes a lot of sense for one of us to just do a single year term, and then go do something else. So if @SaraJo wants to do another term, I would strongly suggest we all vote for her. I believe this is even more important if @mhdawson decides to step down in July. We really need @SaraJo there to help bring whoever would replace @mhdawson up to speed. The counter-part to pushing for this continuity is to make sure that we get more folks interested and excited about representing the community and CPC in the board. And I believe that the best way of forcing us to do that is to limit the maximum number of terms people can do before they need to step down for a while. So I'd like to suggest revising our charter accordingly (in particular the last part of Section 7). |
@tobie the term limit sounds like a good idea to me. How many terms to do you think makes sense? I do think that we want to have the flexibility to reset the term limit if we put out the call for candidates at the end of a term and there are no takers. |
I don't know. 3 years in a row?
I would argue this defeats the purpose of forcing us to mentor new folks in this role. |
Understood but what do we do if there are no volunteers? I guess we can just deal with that if/when it happens. |
Comments from this issue are captured in #874 and once again, thank you to Sara for her service 🫡 |
It’s time to hold an election for the CPC Primary Director seat on the OpenJS Foundation Board, which is currently held by Sara Chipps.
Please fill out this form if you would like to put yourself or someone else forward as a nominee. The call for nominations is open now until April 15. At the close of the nomination period, we will put forward a ballot to Voting CPC members via Opavote per our charter.
Note: the CPC Secondary Board seat currently held by Michael Dawson will be up for election in July.
