It is very useful to use npm-link for react-scripts package when want to test new (local) developed features on existing application.

$ cd create-react-app/packages/react-scripts
$ npm link

$ cd ~/any-existing-app
$ npm link react-scripts

$ npm start

Seeing that you are not using isReactScriptsLinked further down, you can probably declare reactScriptsLinked here and invoke the required util here directly.

My apologies, I missed that note. I made an assumption.

Is the call necessary though? We still may be able to do without it (wouldn't stat just say it doesn't exist?).

@Timer fs.lstatSync('unexistingFile') will throw exception if file does not exist.

Needed for the case npm run build at create-react-app root - there is no react-scripts at create-react-app/node_modules.

Also e2e tests fails if there is no existsSync call.

@Timer

Remove isReactScriptsLinekd.js

Module was deleted. Now all logic is at config/paths.js:121 (and it is removed after eject)

App and Own path.

Now described at config/paths.js:99 and config/pahts.js:121.

But defined only for module.exports that are "before eject" (2nd and 3rd) because appPath and ownPath are not used after eject.

These paths are used only at scripts/eject.js:31.
So maybe it is better to define appPath and ownPath exactly at eject.js but these paths are depends on resolveApp() and resolveOwn() that are private functions at config/paths.js

ownPath equals to node_modules/react-scripts because it will work it both cases - linked and not linked.

@gaearon @Timer react-scripts removes itself after eject but seems the bin script at node_modules/.bin/react-scripts still exists. If it also should be removed - I can provide new PR.

seems the bin script at node_modules/.bin/react-scripts still exists

react-scripts just removes itself from the dependencies and runs npm install. So if npm doesn't delete it, it's an npm bug. actually, it's probably working as intended because npm install doesn't delete anything. Hmm. Maybe we should delete it ourselves 😄

ownPath equals to node_modules/react-scripts because it will work it both cases - linked and not linked.

Can you expand on this? Why did you use resolveApp('node_modules/react-scripts') rather than resolveOwn('react-scripts')?

@tuchk4
Copy link
Contributor Author

tuchk4 commented Mar 5, 2017

ownPath - path to react-scripts root.

If react-scripts is linked - app node_modules looks like this

App/
  |- node_modules/
                 |- react-scripts/ -> (symlink)/lib/node_modules/react-scripts
Case ownPath Notes
resolveApp('node_modules/react-scripts') APP/node_modules/react-scripts Path to react-scripts symlink
resolveOwn('.') CRA_DIR/packages/react-scripts Path to local react-scripts copy
resolveOwn('react-scripts') LOCAL_CRA/packages/react-scripts/react-scripts Path is wrong

1st and 2nd cases are the same expect eject - we remove (eject.js:160) react-scripts from node_modules after eject.
In 2nd case local CRA packages/react-scripts will be removed instead of app node_modules/react-scripts.

@Timer

Timer commented Mar 5, 2017

We opted to switch to resolveOwn('.') because we don't want to hardcode the package name to be react-scripts. 😄 Thanks for the detailed explanation!

Yea, this makes sense (I also experienced it 😄 ). We still shouldn't depend on react-scripts being the folder name here.

Maybe we should add an extra check into eject script itself to skip deleting files outside the project directory.

Maybe we should add an extra check into eject script itself to skip deleting files outside the project directory.

This approach was used in first version of this feature - eject.js:163 - at first commit of this PR 😄

But then we decided to remove utils/isReactScriptsLinked and it became harder to make this check.

I will create new Issue and PR

Projects created by Create React App use the `babel-preset-react` which includes

valid type annotations in Flow. For example if a user accidentally has `[foo: 'bar']`,
Babel will silently convert it to `[foo]`.

This addresses issue facebook#1493.

Current behavior is that `npm run build` exits code 0 without creating a bundle when interrupted. This change makes the build script catch catchable interruptions and exit with the appropriate error code.

* Better error messages for kill signals

* Don't catch SIGINT

Ctrl+C should exit silently, and already produces a non-zero exit code when sent to the console while `npm run build` is running. Exit code 0 is produced if SIGINT is sent directly to the `node build.js` process, but this is unlikely to happen. A SIGINT handler in `build.js` will also be triggered by Ctrl+C in the console, potentially producing unnecessary noise.
