max_temp defined in printer.cfg does not appear to change anything

I need to raise the max temp to 300 degrees to print nylon, however, no matter what max temp I define under extruder, the printer always shuts off at around 290 degrees. Changing parameters for under "verify_heaters" don't seem to do anything either as was suggested by @consp
