There seemed to have been no method of using the network as configured in the template, which actually allows more configuration than the compute_instance module itself. I'm not entirely sure if this is the correct way to do it, but it does seem logical to me.
I might need some help with the code checks, as
make docker_test_lint
exited with and error, but it only showed validation warnings and no errors, so I'm a bit confused about what I'm missing here.
