It looks like you might be behind a proxy or alternate repository that does not yet have Poetry 1.2.0.

Please introspect your local pip configuration -- all this installer does is invoke pip, and if pip can't find 1.2.0 there's nothing we can do from this end.

I encountered this problem on Ubuntu 18.04. I also have python3.8; running the installation script as curl -sSL https://install.python-poetry.org | python3.8 - worked for me.
