  • From Ralf: Let me throw in a suggestion about the usage data, which looked quite interesting. I'd be very curious about that graph about backend usage for non-pure-python packages only (e.g., if they have a platform-specific wheel).

• cookie cutter
  • when generating a project for compiled module, to avoid slowing down CI, only the cd.yml will use cibuildwheel. On a case by case basis, adding some specific job to ci.yml is also sensible.
• Install of files
  • Experimental scikit-build-core feature for disabling "default" install and only install with cmake

  • wheel.exclude could also be updated to exclude file installed by CMake
• Possible to build sdist that include ExternalProject or FetchContent retrieved source code

• SciPy Proposal

    • Focus on C++, Cython, Rust, and Go (to distribute binary)
    • Last year's, was not accepted
    • With maturin for rust packages?
