That’s interesting. Do you know when it appeared? It seems they added this for all documents in the database.

Looks like this URL is acting as a (hacky) proxy:

  • the real URL answers with 200 OK, no surprise here;
  • the ELI one answers with 404 Not found!

Both seem to send the same contents. I did a quick MD5 comparison and it doesn’t match but it seems that this is just because of the query string parameters that are copied in some internal links.

What is the exact goal of this issue? Extracting the ELI URL to display it in some way? Using it as a canonical URL and rewriting all internal links to make them use it?

This is less inflexible than it looks like. The URL format and what it supports is defined there: http://www.ejustice.just.fgov.be/eli/ (NL, FR)
