help with why a circuit termination cable trace doesn't work both directions

the path goes
internal router (gig0/1) <> (lan1) cpe nid (optical-wan1) <> (term z) circuit termination

tracing from gig0/1 on the internal router

tracing from the circuit termination

I don't understand why the cable trace goes through the full path when tracing from the internal router, but doesn't go all the way back to the router when tracing from the circuit termination.

I have "lan1" bridged to "optical-wan1" to make the trace work from the internal router side, but if I bridge "optical-wan1" to "lan1" it doesn't make the cable trace work back the other way. Any ideas?
