Why is Monal bombarding me with chatroom notifications? #863
-
A few months ago (specifically in August), I had joined the Disroot Community Hangout chatroom in Monal. Today, when I opened Monal, the first thing it did was sequentially download the thousands of messages that had been sent in the past few months that I hadn't read, even though I didn't care to read them and expected that it would only show me the latest messages, not download all of them. Monal practically exploded with notifications on my phone and computer. What's the reason for that? Is Monal supposed to do that, is that how XMPP works, or is it because a server is missing an XEP or something like that? |

Normally Monal should load/receive chatroom messages when they are written, not months later. The fact that Monal suddenly started to load the history of that room makes me think that either the server to server connection between your server and the server hosting the chatroom was broken for some time and/or you had an old version of monal running that had a bug making you not join this chatroom. either way: now everything should be back to normal and messages should be received immediately, right? |

You can silence chatrooms in the contact details (the bell icon).
The variants are "notify all", "notify only if my nickname is mentioned", "don't notify at all".
