I've been trying really, really hard to use Safari instead of Chrome. My Macbook Pro's battery life and ram usage are so extraordinarily better on Safari, it's worth a little pain to try to switch back. But for a long time, the lack of favicons had me crawling back to Chrome.

I'd still love native favicon support, but this extension makes Safari usable again. Thank you, thank you, for such a phenomenal idea and execution! Even just throwing an octopus next to my github tabs has been a boon to my workflow; everything else is icing.

Keep being awesome!

Out of curiosity, what is the technical reason that the site's actual favicons can't be used automatically in the tabs using a plugin?

@rdetert As far as I'm aware, there's no way for a plugin to access the Safari UI--it can only modify the content on an individual webpage. The only access we have is to the tab title text, which can only contain raw text (fortunately, this permits the use of emoji). So there's no way to include an actual favicon image in the tab's title bar.

The only way I know of to make Safari automatically use website favicons is through a combination of MySIMBL and SafariStand, which involves patching the Safari binary itself.

Thanks, I'm switching to Safari from Chrome and this makes it so much nicer!
