They certainly could, but they’re dependent on standards work on RDF*.

Searching for "rdfstar" seems to be more practical.

No spec for RDF*, yet; people have just been going off of Olaf's paper and the Blazegraph post. Of course, it does need to be spec'd, and there are a number of issues that aren't too clear.

There is some good discussion on the mailing list you referenced, and it remains a great place for discussion, including about JSON-LD*.
