teal Hackathon: Unleash the Power of Data with teal

Motivation

As teal landed as a mature product on CRAN I think now it's a great opportunity for marketing and for getting the community involved. We could organize 24hours long Hackathon, where participants would join sessions/presentation and learn teal and also we would ask participants to create cool data analyses based on teal. Lastly we could have an extra category on the best new community teal module, so that not only we promote the tool, but also we ask community to provide extensions to the existing code base!

Hackathon activities and top benefits

• workshops and presentations:
  • We will kick off the hackathon with workshops and presentations introducing participants to teal and providing guidance on data analysis techniques, visualization best practices, and problem-solving strategies. Workshops will cover topics such as data cleaning, exploratory data analysis, statistical modeling, and interactive visualization.
  • We can host workshops multiple times, so that at least once every workshop is hosted in a convenient time for Asia, America and Europe+Africa.
• hands-on mentoring:
  • Our team of experts will be available throughout the hackathon to provide guidance, answer questions, and offer technical support to participants. Mentors will assist teams in refining their project ideas, troubleshooting technical issues, and optimizing their use of teal for data analysis and visualization.
  • We could assign one teal core dev member or at least SME team member to every team that takes part in a Hackathon. This way it would be easier for participants to work with teal.
• networking and collaboration:
  • Participants will have the opportunity to network, collaborate, and exchange ideas with like-minded individuals through our Slack community. They can share their experiences, seek feedback on their projects, and connect with other data enthusiasts and professionals interested in leveraging teal for data-driven insights.

Overall benefits: promotion of teal, community engagement, promotional materials (that hackathon will generate), knowledge sharing and priceless! user feedback!

teal hackathon offers a unique opportunity to engage with data enthusiasts, showcase the capabilities of teal and foster collaboration and innovation in data-driven decision-making. Plan

• Find clinical open source dataset
• Create/Invent hypothesis that data analyses (using teal!) tan verify
• Summarize Hackathon goals (can be more than one category - we can have data analysis + the best new community module)
• Prepare introductory presentations
• Create timeline (when we have workshops, when we reveal the goal, when we expect participants to submit solutions, when we decide who was the best and won the competition)
• Create registration form
• Organize the event
• Think about the prize or seek for sponsors who would like to grant the prize in an exchange for a visibility (or maybe also possibility to give their own talks during the hackaton)

Form

• Fully remote
• Participate in teams or solo
• Till the reveal of the goal, participants have 24hours to send their solutions
• Workshops shared as YouTube streams with ability to ask questions on the stream chat or on Slack
