The MailPlugin does not throw exceptions when mail server is not available or sending mail failed.
We should better throw a PluginException in this cases to have more control over infrastructure issues
Maybe we can add an option to tweak the behaviour.

This was already implemented before Issue #523

Need to be checked in more detail.....
