(Adapted from a Word document, written by EmiyaSora. Thanks EmiyaSora!)

  1. Open up Hex Maniac Advance.

  2. Go to Data > Pokémon Stats (For both FireRed and Emerald the tutorial will be similar for now).

  1. Change the names of Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle (in this case, we will add the Sinnoh starters).

  2. Add the Sprites and Icons in order to complete the transformation.

Note: here is where the tutorials diverge.

  1. (FireRed only) click on the magnifying glass icon and type “Bulbasaur”, “Charmander” and “Squirtle”.

5.1. Replace their names with those of your starters of choice.

5.2. Check in VBA or mGBA to see if it worked.

  1. (Emerald only)

6.1. Only change the names for testing (since finding second frames for sprites may be quite difficult).

6.2. Go to Data > Pokédex > Stats to change the Pokémon scientific names, like “GRASS SNAKE”, for Snivy and so on. (In FireRed it works the same to make accurate Pokédex entries).

6.3. Check in your favorite emulator to see if it worked.

6.4. To edit the Johto postgame starters, the process is the same as the one to edit the starters for FireRed, changing sprites, icons and names, as well as clicking in the magnifying glass icon to check out their names, and change it to your Pokémon of choice (like Chespin from Chikorita):

  1. Is it possible to edit Casino Reward Pokémon in FireRed?

Note 2: this is experimental so, if you’re going to do it, make sure to have lots of backups without the edit, just in case it doesn’t works out, okay?

Abra, Clefairy, Dratini, Scyther and Porygon are rewards in Celadon’s Casino, and, like the Starters and Fossils, their names won’t automatically change there even if you edit them alongside the sprites and icons so, we will use the magnifying glass icon to look out for one of them, in this case Dratini:

In theory, should you change the names of the Pokémon here, alongside the coin prize, perhaps those slots could be safely edited into something else, but since it hasn’t been tested, it’s up to you. Should it work, try to report it in the Hex Maniac Discord server! :D
