[feature] Air-gapped deployment support #2294
Comments
Let's chat more about what you're thinking about this, we are planning some rearchitecting which may help with this! Would you like to come by our maintainer call or set up a separate meeting to chat more? |
@lumjjb I could potentially make the community meeting or we can setup another meeting to chat. |
@brandtkeller sure, if the community meeting does not work, we can setup another call. |
We discussed this briefly in today's Community Meeting. I've set up a WhenIsGood link to schedule a dedicated meeting time for it: https://whenisgood.net/air-guac |
I forgot to update this issue, but we will have this meeting on Thursday 12 December at 11am Eastern. |
Meeting was held and we agreed upon another follow up in the new year. Ideas for introducing the premise of initial GUAC capabilities that allow for the visualization of the components that have been introduced to the air-gapped environment. If someone can help enumerate which components of guac these are I would love to take a stab at this prior to the next meeting. |
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Many highly regulated environments operate with minimal to completely disconnected infrastructure from the internet. Having the ability to support deployment mechanisms to these environments while also identifying the constraints around updates can be a crucial constraint.
Describe the solution you'd like
Both the ability to support collection of the artifacts required for initial deployment as well as identified processes for services that need to receive data from external sources in a regular cadence to maintain operational functionality.
Describe alternatives you've considered
No alternatives currently considered - open to consideration
Additional context
Primarily I would like to use this issue to identify what the constraints for internet connectivity currently are in order to begin designing a process to support migrating data effectively.
zarf as an OpenSSF project specializes in the deployment mechanism to air-gapped environments.
I would be interested in helping explore what this looks like in implementation if interested and any context provided 🙂 .
