For example, cargo-generate supports Rhai scripts as "hooks", which can be used to rename or delete files: https://github.com/cargo-generate/cargo-generate/tree/main/example-templates/hooks.

It may be possible to eliminate the need for a cargo-generate branch. If that's not viable, there may still be some other benefits to be had.
